Lake Pflugerville

Alex and I spent the morning out at Lake Pflugerville today (after a 5 k run). What a beautiful place. The lake is man made and only about a year old. I volunteered at the Lake Pflugerville triathalon a few weeks ago and thought I really need to bring Alex here. He did so amazing in the water and was actually swimming with his head under (which is more than I did). The beach is a little rocky but very fun to play in as you can see.

The Many Faces of Alexander the Great

The past few months Alex has REALLY been showing his personality in many ways. One of the ways he shows it loud and clear is the way he dresses. It has become commonplace for him to wear his cowboy boots and hat every time he leaves the house, I don't even bat an eye anymore it's just so "normal" for him to be wearing them that when people comment on it I have to think about what they are talking about. He really takes being born in Texas seriously. He also likes to wear play glasses or sometimes not play glasses, like mine. He loves headbands (I have to draw the line about wearing those out of the house) wearing gloves and I had to make him a cape because the cute little Batman one he had got way too small. He loves his SPIbelt which carries all his gear, it is actually a running belt for Small Personal Items (SPI) but he takes it to mean spy belt. The hilarious part is he takes all this so seriously and sees absolutely nothing wrong or funny about any of it. He is becoming quite well known in the neighbourhood. Here are a few of our favourite outfits of recent.

Alex's First Fishing Pole

Alex has been asking for a fishing pole for a long time. We finally got around to getting one this past weekend. Since we didn't want to get a fishing license just yet we have been practicing casting in the backyard. Alex has a lot of fun with this and has gotten quite good. He has only got it caught in the tree a few dozen times. We even set up the pool so he could practice his aim and he casts it to the pool and then reels in his catch!!

The Phoenix Zoo

We braved the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday. I say braved because the high was supposed to be in the low 100's. It actually was very cool and breezy when we first arrived but got very sticky after being there for 5 hours. The zoo is very well done with lots of water for kids to play in and misters and water fountains. A beautiful zoo unfortunately it was too hot for many of the animals who were hiding which made it hard to see them. The highlight was seeing the Komodo Dragons eat (or capture) their lunch of fresh bird!! and it was not given to them by the zoo keeper.

Phoenix

Hands down, Phoenix Children's Museum is the best museum for kids I have ever been too. Noodle forests, child size restaurants, grocery store with working check out stations, tons of painting and art stuff, plasma cars that go through a car wash, tree forts and so much more make up this very cool and air conditioned place. Way too much fun for Jay and I, Alex enjoyed it too. These are just a few pics but they don't really do this place justice.

Canada Day

I had to post the pictures of these cookies that my very talented friend Jessica made for my Canada Day playdate. Not only do they look fantastic they tasted delicious and I should know because after everyone left I ate 4 of them!! I saved one for Jay and gave one to a neighbour and I didn't even pretend that I made them I gave all the credit to Jessica. Alex had a few of his friends over for some ice fishing, water balloon toss and good old fashioned play. Next year I hope to have a real Canada Day party in Canada!! Jessica will you make the cookies again!!
