Keep Austin Weird

I love running in downtown Austin despite the hills. This was a really fun 5k because you were encouraged to wear costumes, I did not wear a costume, but Alex wore his Knight costume (which to be honest he would have been wearing anyway because he is so into knights right now). He did get a lot of nods for his costumes and for his running too. he ran probably about 1 mile of the race with lots of stops for freezies, cool treasures found on the ground, and of course drink stops. We need to get down to Austin more.

Chuck E Cheese

Alex had his first experience with Chuck E Cheese (hope I got that right), it was actually my first and hopefully last experience as well. I knew as soon as we walked in the place I had probably lost him, both physically and mentally. It was like he turned into a zombie and his only goal was to play as many games and rides as possible. Trying to get him to the birthday table, let alone acknowlege the birthday boy was a little more than I could handle. That place is a zoo. He did have fun and that's what it is all about, right??!? As we drove home and before he drifted into a Chuck-E induced sleep he muttered "Mama, I changed my mind I want a Chuck E Cheese birthday party" . What??? Alex I can't hear you??

What...I can't Hear Ya

It has been our routine lately for me to get Alex bathed, brushed and dressed for bed before Jay gets home for work (on the days he is working). Usually we are on our 5th or 6th story before Jay sneaks in bed with us and sort of just takes over the nightime rutuals. I say my goodnighty nights and I head out. I really cherish this time for Jay and Alex to have together because they don't really get a lot of one on one time. I don't rush to the tv or to the computer, no I rush to the baby monitor to listen in on the conversation that takes place between Dad and son-Alex becomes quite the chatterbox late at night. Last night was laugh out loud funny. I had been having problems with Alex listening to me and doing what I ask on the first request so I told Jay to have a word with him about listening to mummy, because whatever Jay says, Alex does, you would think that Jay beats him or something the way Alex listens, when the truth is Jay (or I)have never spanked and we rarely raise our voices (that may change in the future). Anyways Alex's response to Daddy asking him why he doesn't listen is..."Sometimes I have trouble hearing mummy"...bwaaaahahahah (me downstairs) So Jay asks if mummy should talk louder, and Alex says "no, I don't think that would help."
