Here Comes Summer

Summer is definitely here. Alex had his last day of school yesterday so today we celebrated at Robin Bledsoe Splash Pool in Leander. We have always really enjoyed this little park even though it is really quite simple-maybe that is why we like it so much. Although today it was flooded with kids, barely a place to sit!! Nevertheless a great kick off to to the pool and swimming season.

Alex's First Race

Alex and I participated in the Dam Mile tonight. We had a blast and ended with a good time. It is a mile race out by the Georgetown Dam and is like the name suggests one mile long, sponsored by the Georgetown Running Club. His little friends Cooper and Reese ran it too. Afterwards there was a pizza and beer party to celebrate. Alex got his first (of many hopefully) medal tonight. We got home pretty late and man was he tired.

Opening Our Pool

So what if it is only 6 foot by 3, we have a ton of fun in this pool. Alex is getting so brave in the water and can actually do a doggie paddle swim. I take him to the rec. center pool 4-5 times a week and he has improved his swimming so much this year. I credit his teachers Sam and Nicole who taught him in his first class without me. It was like I needed to be removed from the equation and the swimming would start. He 'll be swimming laps by the end of the summer. He is so excited for the outdoor splash pad to be opened.

This is me heading up Talbot towards Central and onto the completion of the race. Feeling pretty beat, yet exhilarated.

Forest City Half and 5K

May 2 my mum and I headed down to Victoria Park in London for the big race. She did the 5 k and I did the half marathon. It was such a treat to be able to run in my hometown and know every corner and turn in the race (not sure if that was an advantage or disadvantage) but it certainly got me a PR of 1:48 which I am quite proud of. It was also great to run my house, my sister's house and my brother's house with them cheering me on. It makes such a difference to have that support along the course. I am also proud of my mum who placed 2nd in her age group and finished with a great time of 39 minutes. She is now looking ahead to the next race.
