My Mother's Day

Since Jay had to work on Mother's Day we celebrated on Saturday which actually turned out a lot better because everything was quiet!!  My day started out with getting to sleep in until a whopping 8:15-woohoo.  At which point I was awaken with sloppy kisses and hugs from my guys!!  No better way to wake up.  I was then surprised with all my cards and my beautiful picture and poem Jay put together for me (very nice!!).  After swimming lessons I got taken to my favorite restaurant for lunch (chuy's).  Alex's present to me was a three hour nap that afternoon.  In the evening Jay and I got our first evening out without Alex since he was born.  We hired a babysitter (girl from across the street) to come over and we went to dinner and a movie.  Boy was that a weird sensation being out without AJ.  I must say I was a little stressed the whole time, but did manage to enjoy myself and my husband.  We went to see What Happens in Vegas which was a cute little flick.  We've booked her for next weekend too!!!

Picasso???

This is what happens when you talk on the phone too long.  If you are wondering why he still has the marker in his hand it's because every time I tried to get it from he screamed bloody murder.  I have since bought him new markers that only write on a special paper (sneaky mama).

Mother's Day Picnic

On Friday our playgroup had a Mother's Day Picnic at Kelly Park.  It was a scorching 96 degrees Fahrenheit (that's damn hot for you Canadians).  One of the mums brought her water table which quickly became the most popular activity there.  Our contribution was chocolate donuts which Alex quickly got a hold of as you can see in the picture.

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Today Alex and I hosted the Cinco De Mayo playdate at our house.  We didn't expect the total downpour that started about 4 in the morning so unfortunately we crammed almost 26 people into our house.  It all worked out and everyone had a great time!!  We ate lots of great pseudo Mexican food, drank virgin margarita punch, listened to Mariachi music and took turns wearing the sombrero-OLE!!

My Sensitive Little Man

This book made Alex bawl tonight.  We were reading together having a great time when right near the end when the frog, the sheep and the goat fall in the mud and the duck drives off Alex starting bawling his head off.  At the same time he was trying to tell me something in his language which I took to mean "that was not very nice of the duck to leave his three friends in the mud like that right after they helped him out of the mud".  Well, Alex I totally agree with you!!  I think it was the first time I had seen him have real empathy towards something.  We quickly finished the book and gave each other a huge hug which seemed to make him feel a lot better.  He's definitely a sensitive little guy-just like his mama who still cries at Hallmark commercials.

Champion Park

Our playgroup met at an awesome new (to us) park today.  It was a huge sand pit with buried dinosaur bones.  It was also covered with a huge shade canopy so it was nice and cool.  They had diggers built into the sand that the kids could operate and tons of shovels and little brushes to uncover the dino bones.  It put our sandbox to shame.  Alex does love his sand so much so he brought home about two cups of the stuff in his shoes, diaper and pockets as a souvenir.  Must get the vacuum out!!  It was a little like being in NM at least the sand part anyway.

The Pool is Open

We broke out the little pool we bought a few months ago at a garage sale for $2.00.  Not a bad deal considering all the fun we've had in it in only three days.  Since starting swimming lessons at Nitro Alex loves blowing bubbles and then putting his ear in the water, not sure why he chose his ear to immerse, but it's a start.  The water is absolutely freezing, but that hasn't slowed him down any, youth eh???  Here is Alex "swimming" in the pool today.

What's Your Name

Tonight during bedtime rituals we asked Alex what his name was and he responded, "Alex," or a form of that.  He definitely said it and I think that others would be able to decipher it as well.  He also now says "Go please" when he is on my back waiting for his horsey ride-at least he's polite when he's breaking mum's back.  He talks all the time.  My favorite moments are when he is in the playroom playing cars or blocks or whatever and he is talking away and is totally lost in his world.  He usually catches me staring at him and the moment is gone, but that is my slice of Heavan for the day.  He actually has quite the repertoire of real words, it just takes him a little bit of prodding before he blurts them out.

Our Little Fashionista

On April 18th Alex was part of the MOPS fashion show put on by a little store in Georgetown.  He got to choose his own outfit and even walked down the runway all by himself, he needed a little help turning around to face the audience though.  He looked incredibly handsome with his tractor jumper on and carrying his pinwheel (which he was thrilled he got to keep).

Swimming Lessons

Alexander started swimming lessons again this year at the Nitro swimming pool in Cedar Park.  His teacher's name is Ms. Kyle and he loves her.  He is doing so well this year and looks forward to his lessons every day.  He now is jumping in on his own, which is very scary for Mama who must catch him every time even when she's not ready.  He is supposed to wait for the code word but he gets so excited he can't wait.  He is getting much more comfortable on his back and front.  He goes under every class and loves to blow bubbles (he even practices in the bath).
